As Sunbreak Speech, we also specialize in rehabilitative therapy services for individuals who are experiencing communication, cognitive, or swallowing challenges resulting from stroke, dementia, brain injuries, or progressive neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease. Our therapists have advanced training and experience to deliver therapy programs designed to help clients regain independence and improve communication, social interaction, and swallowing safety.

Orofacial Myology has been defined as “the study and treatment of oral and facial muscles as they relate to speech, dentition, chewing/bolus collection, swallowing, and overall mental and physical health” (S.R Holtzman).
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy involves an individualized program to help the patient retrain these adaptive patterns of muscle function, and to create and maintain a healthy orofacial environment. Treatment goals may include the following:​​

Normalize tongue and lip resting postures

Establish nasal breathing patterns

Eliminate improper chewing and swallowing patterns

Stabilize the dentition from extraneous orofacial muscle movement

Individual therapy is provided in our clinic-based setting and is one-on-one with a certified speech-language pathologist. We always invite families and caregivers to be an active member of the team and therapy sessions. Our sessions are scheduled for 30-50 minutes and frequency is determined based on the need of each individual and as a team with the family.
language development: parent coaching
The Hanen It Takes Two to Talk program is taught by a specially trained speech-language pathologist. The program is geared towards parents and caregivers of children ages birth to 5 years who are experiencing a language delay. These small group sessions are designed to empower parents with the strategies to play, read, and interact with your child in meaningful ways that will increase your child's language learning. At Sunbreak Speech, we are excited to be able to offer this evidence-based program that we have seen deliver amazing results for families and caregivers.
